First of all, I'd like to thank Dale for taking the initiative to begin the Cirque in the first place, and for continuing it in such a grand fashion for the past ten years. I actually missed the first event, which was really a Sunday gathering in the parking lot of the old shop. I made it the following year when the event moved indoors and grew a little. I remember having dinner with Dale the Saturday evening before. I think there were five of us, and one was a pal I had dragged along from Northern VA. The ride, swap and show the following Sunday left a indelible impression on me. I discovered a community that I had previously thought consisted of only a very few people, mostly one's I'd only known through remote communication. I knew then that I had discovered something special. The Cirque became a must-attend event for me, as it has for so many others in the subsequent years. And it's just gotten bigger and better with each staging - and the community just keeps expanding. It's now sort-of like an annual family reunion that I wouldn't know how to replace. When Dale decided to pass the baton, so to speak, I decided that I should offer myself in service to the community. MJ attended her first Cirque last year, but came away wondering why she hadn't jumped in earlier. She was on-board immediately.

Secondly, I'd like to thank Dale for having faith in us and trusting us with his creation. Thanks also to the many others that have given us encouragement and support in this pursuit. We hope to continue the great tradition, and give back to the community that we have become a part of.

In the next couple of days, I will be providing more detailed information about the 2008 event on the CR list. The core pieces are in place, but some details are still being worked out. At this year's Cirque, we hope to have not only detailed printed info about the '08 event, but also info about other things the area has to offer.

Stay tuned!

See you all soon!

PS: There's a typo in Dale's post -- When: June 6, 7 & 8, 2007 - that's 2008, of course!

----------- Announcing the 2008 Cirque du Cyclisme!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Cirque is forging on!

After many meetings and conversations, with wonderful interest and advice from friends, I am happy to announce that the husband and wife team, Mary Jo Weier and Wayne Bingham, will be the new hosts and organizers of the 2008 Cirque du Cyclisme event. Wayne has attended and and helped out in virtually every Cirque thus far. His love of cycling heritage and organizational skills and the added ooomph from wife e MJ will make this a great continuation of what I started 10 years ago and allow the Cirque to further grow and improve.

Here are the key points:

When: June 6, 7 & 8, 2007

Where: Historic Leesburg, Virginia This community lies just to the west of Dulles International airport and Washington, DC. to get an idea of where it is geographically take a peek: http://tinyurl.com/2xuqa8

What: The 2008 Cirque events are TBA but have many similarities to past events.

Venue: Most activities will be conveniently located within the host hotel, Best Western Leesburg Hotel & Conference Center (a larger hotel and with many more amenities.)

Wayne will soon announce the details of how to participate & make reservations, etc., as well as have all that at this year's Cirque event.

I cannot complete this announcement without including special thanks to MJ and Wayne for their leadership, and also to those who offered to be future organizers of Cirque du Cyclisme events; John Barron, Andy Bohlmann, Mike Kone and Chris Kostman. And of course I must acknowledge the support of past Cirques by all of you who have attended, the cycles de ORO staff, the Greensboro Velo Club, and my local committee members, Scott Ramsay and Ken Toda.

See you all at this years Cirque, and then again in Leesburg next year!

Thanks
Dale
