I'm no Suntour expert and perhaps they changed their taper with different iterations of their cranks over the years, but that said, I have a later model Superbe Pro crank and it definitely does not work with Campy from that period. It requires a special, Suntour-specific taper. In my case, I ordered a "custom" Phil Wood BB in that taper through Rivendell. The other alternative is tracking down a matching Suntour BB. If you jam it onto a Campy BB, it will not go on far enough and the crank will sit outboard quite a bit. This "works," but I would guess is prone to coming loose and perhaps dangerous. That, and it's not comfortable since the crank arm is shoved outboard so much.

okay so now i'm confused by 'modern' bikes as well

i too have a superbe pro chainset, in fact i have two. a track 144bcd that is on my daily rider and a road double in bubble wrap. the superbe pro track bottom bracket (109mm) on the fixedwheel has got a little trashed - london winter. so i wrote to phil's to find out about a replacement. they no longer make the superbe pro specific BB. however they said the 'new' campagnolo taper was a match for the superbe pro (which i know is NOT JIS) but that they only have 108mm or 110.5mm i was recommended to go with the 110.5mm. i have heard before (bob list?) that the superbe pro uses a campagnolo taper so this made sense. but now i'm unsure.

i'm surprised this query hasn't got a diffinitive answer. and the question has sown seeds of doubt in my mind, before i stump up for a phil BB i want to know i'm getting the right one. i'm not an expert in this area at all, i didn't even know there were two campagnolo tapers!

i like my suntour track chainset -a lot and i was planning on using the road double soon too. so whats the deal?
