[CR]Tuesday, May 8, Sam Fitzsimmons to deliver history of the bicycle at a bike co-op in Baltimore

(Example: Racing)

Many of you have met Sam Fitzsimmons, one of our CR guys and an absolute resource for historic bicycle parts and information. He's giving a talk at the Velocipede Bike Project this Tuesday evening from 7 - 9 pm here in Baltimore City. They're located around the corner from the Baltimore Train Station at 4 W. Lanvale St., Baltimore, Md. 21201 if you wish to mapquest the directions.

The Velocipede Bike Project is a bike co-op started just almost two years ago, and is aimed at getting people on bikes. Lots of donated bikes and parts, teaching people to work on bikes and the possibility to build your own with what's available. It supports the messenger community, has great coffee (at least at the swap meet I attended recently), and I've seen some builds with great personality. They like steel and lugs. I'm pretty impressed with what they're doing.

History of the Bicycle, Part II, 1900-1940's, The Patent Wars that brought us standardization and the bicycle as we know it today. http://www.velocipedebikeproject.org "Sam Fitzsimmons, a local antique bicycle dealer, will join us to talk about how the bicycle came to be as we know it today, and how the world changed because of it."

Some more vintage content: Saw some nice old and KOF bikes at the Kinetic Sculpture Race this Saturday at the inner harbor of Baltimore. One, a really pretty porteur bike, w/ custom front rack and fenders by ANT.

Happy trails,
