I think there was a chorus of sighs from the people who watched it. It's hard to imagine a more enjoyable day; ride to the station, ride the train to your jumping off point, ride the beautiful country lanes without stinking cars around, lunch at a country pub with real ale, back home chatting and dozing on the train. A golden age.
