It's not just that Greg Lemond won the Tour three times, (once after having been shot in the chest). It's not just that he was the first American to do it. It's not just that he suffered at the hands of his team mates and team owners. It's not just that after being one of world's greatest athletes, he suffered and still suffers from the side effects of having lead shot still lodged in his body, and he still has the focus to raise a family, and launch a successful business. Lemond has now proven himself to be brave ... brave enough to admit to the world that he was abused as a six year old child ... brave enough to stand up to the fools that sought to prevent him from testifying that his beloved sport is riddled with lies, drugs and threats to keep it all under wraps... brave enough to simply tell the truth.
Why it's enough to make me want to go out and restore a blue Gitane, wave the flag, and proclaim that honor in sport is still alive in many including this fine 45 year old man, Greg Lemond.
