I borrowed an alignment gauge and checked the drop-out hanger, which is fine.

John,

I can't offer specifc advice on how to fix your Record rear der., but I will say that Chuck's advice seems reasonable to me. There's nothing to lose by trying to tweek the body into shape.

I will add this general guidance, however: hanger aligment is funny. How's that? Okay, I'll also add that it has been my observation that a hanger aligned to the Campy tool's standard will not necessarily be aligned to the best position for even a brand-new high-quality modern derailleur. The Shimano version of the hanger alignment tool is more elaborate and exact, but no more helpful. I think the wildcard is how the threads are cut in the hanger and on the hanger bolt. In many cases there is wobble as the bolt is advanced. In the end, you need to set the hanger to be "right" when your particular derailleur/droput combo is torqued home.
