Subject: [CR]Masi fork threading/Silver Mavic seatpost?

I recently acquired a Masi 3V and am trying to install a Mavic headset on the fork. The headset will thread slightly onto the fork and then bind. The headset is marked 25.4x24 and a similarly marked Campy headset does the same. The more generic asian one inch headset parts that I have thread on just fine.

From reading Sheldon Brown's site on headset threading, I am guessing that the Masi has an italian-threaded fork and that the Mavic/Campy have a slightly different threading (ISO vs. JIS?) and thus will not thread on while the asian headsets will? Can anyone confirm this? I am assuming that I can run a cutting die on the threads and fix the mismatch? (the frame, if it makes a difference is a fairly late one, serial number is M56/2340. I'm not sure from the Masi registry site if it's Californian or Italian, if anybody can shed some light on this as well, I'd appreciate it)

While I am on the subject of this bike, I was planning on building it up with a complete, or fairly complete, set of Mavic parts. The only Mavic seatpost that I can find is black, and I really don't like black seatposts, particularly when mixed with a silver stem. Does anybody know if Mavic ever produced a silver post? or am I stuck either violating the "mavicness" of the bike or my aesthetic sensibilities?

thanks for any help,

Baird
