There were stocks of spare gum, white, and black hoods available at reasonable prices for quite a number of years after the Record and Gran Sport levers were no longer a current production component. Eventually, however, many an LBS and even the mail order houses found themselves in the position of only being able to offer those black Gran Sport hoods as a viable and "genuine Campy" replacement option for Record levers because stocks of the proper gum and/or white hoods had, shall we say, "dried up" (...yuk, yuk, yuk).
