I thought the price was high for the actual material, and figured the
"thrill" of a new 35+ year old classic French lightweight pushed the price t
o where
it ended. For $1700.00, the buyer could have found a much better built fra
me
on eBay and then proceeded to find excellent or NOS parts to build it up -
there's fun in that as well. When all is said and done, and don't get me w
rong,
I have always had a soft spot in my heart (and head) for most Peugeots, the
buyer is left with, most likely, a marginally finished frame (let's hope the
re
are no gaps in the brazing) with some pretty cheap components.
Once it is ridden, the market value will probably decrease by 2/3...of course, the buyer may never intend to ride it (or to finish the build for th at matter), but many have spoken about that decision.
I was surprised the price went as high as it did (it seemed to go up when th e buyer stated he had retrieved the original box)........and no, I did not place a bid.
