I bought a set of off topic Wilderness Trail Bikes hubs from a local guy years ago. This was the time period when cassettes were just overtaking freewheels. Well, the seller had disassembled the freewheel by removing all of the cogs and spacers, thinking he was disassembling a cassette.

What I did was to build the hub into a wheel using only the left side spokes and tensioning just enough to hold it all together. Then, using the correct freewheel remover I was able to remove the freewheel body. The wheel was floppy, but didn't collapse before the freewheel body leg go of the hub. Might be best to use a wasted rim just in case it all decides to go goofy having only 1/2 the normal number of spokes.
