Maxicar are not one of the French components that are cheap, at least not in recent years. They have long been a favorite with Japanese collectors. Interest by Japanese collectors seems to determine whether a French component is cheap or quite expensive. Sometimes the price of extremely similar French bits will vary wildly on eBay depending on how many Japanese collectors were bidding that day. But they rarely pass up Maxicar hubs in good condition.

Right now there's a pair of Maxi-car hubs on e*ay, with more than two days yet to go and a price already past $400... wouldn't call that exactly dirt cheap :)
