Last year I wrote a blog about Clapt on's Cinelli obsession, with some links to some photos of Clapton hisself ' con Cinelli': http://retroride.blogspot.com/2006/12/confluence-of-fanboy-ob sessions.html Two of the bikes on Clapton's blog are also on John Barron 's Velostuff site: http://www.velostuf.com/cinellisilvertrack1.jpg & http:/ /www.velostuf.com/PA130024.JPG Are these Clapton's bikes, or John's or n either? Clapton is appa rently a big Cinelli fan -- page through that same blog some more and yo u'll find more evidence:
on s ome of these pages, you might have to scroll down a couple pictures to s ee the bikes.
Thing is, I remember reading years ago (like, 20 years) in one of the cycling magazines -- possibly Bicycling, but more likely, Bicycle Guide (which I liked infinitely better, and subscribed to, and miss a lot) -- that Clapton was big into cycling and there was this phot o of him taking delivery of a new bike. I don't have the magazine anymor e, but I seem to remember that the bike was a new Colnago with the full Campagnolo SR gruppo, and he was taking the bike from Sr. Colnago himsel f. The article mentioned that growing up he had ambitions to be a bicycl e racer, but the music became the bigger deal for him.
