Am I the only one who finds the humor in a group of mostly older overweight men discussing the performance of racing bikes? God, I love you guys. John B is right. To argue against bikes today being better for the single purpose of racing is to deny that the clock moves forward.

But since very few of the new (or old) bikes are used for racing I'm surprised this argument ever gets any traction. If a bike is built in rational dimensions, and you can achieve a good fit, that bike will be fast, comfortable, and reasonably light. That is about all you need to enjoy riding a bicycle and achieve fitness that will add several years to your life. Or... if your racing you look for every advantage to either get ahead or keep up. It's been that way since the bike was first pedaled in anger.
