For those who are interested, I think the bike and its location are plausible. I'm lucky to have one of these (SN: A200). Mine is restored, and not completely original (rims probably post-war, etc), but it had never occurred to me that it might be worth $25,000 - or even $5,000 (asking price for another, in Cal., couple of years ago). But, I hope our son will find the answer to the question for my bike; after I can no longer ride it (or anything else).

Does the Detroit bike have provenance (I can't trace mine back prior to 1973 or so, when I got it)? Is it all original? Are there still people around who have such strong emotional attachment to that vintage to be willing to pay the price of a decent new car?

Having said all that, a decent respect for your opinions means that I will not make an offer for this bike. At any price. One 38 paramount is enough for me. But, thanks, Eric, for bringing it up.
