Did any CR members know Alex. He rode strong into early 80's then in an attempt to prove to Cal Trans one could ride the California Bay Bridge they allowed Alex to ride at 2:00pm with Cal Tans behind in a pickup. Alex hit a crack in pavement and went down suffering a head injury. That he recovered from but got staph infection in the Hospital and never quite got over that. Alex was about 5'-2" and a feisty rider from Germany. He got bicycle racing lessons at 80 to ride better and faster. Once on a century ride there were violins quartet playing at a rest stop. Alex asked to borrow one of the violins and joined in and played Classic music. Charles http://home.comcast.net/~zuckermann/
