Interesting. I've never owned a Phil hub, but for the last 25+years I've used a Phil "Atom" remover to remove Atom, Regina, and Zeus freewheels from all kinds of hubs without any problems. Are you sure you had yours inserted fully?

BTW, the Phil tool is simply a copy of the Zeus tool, which was harder to obtain in North America.
