What do you need to know? How to make it work? I'm no expert specifically on these lamps, but rode with a guy in my youth who used one. All you do is put some calcium carbide and water in it, start the water dripping and light it up. You probably want to know where to get the carbide, so here is a FAQ link http://wasg.iinet.net.au/lampfaq.html and you can google "calcium carbide" for more. Today's safety-obsessed generation would probably be paranoid about using these lamps, but they are the brightest bicycle lights I can remember.

Acetylene lamps using carbide are a bit finicky and a loto the antique car folks have converted to propane, but that would add even more weight to an already heavy system for a bicycle.
