Subject: [CR]COLNER/COLNAGO frame number

I think that the List discussed COLNER frames some time back. The brand is/ was a sub-brand of the COLNAGO marque, and represented in the main a slight ly lower level of manufacture.

I remember inspecting then frames closely at the Milan Show, sometime in the 80s and thinking that they looked very much like the "SUPER" model, bu t, having seen the price-list I decided that they were not made by Colnago, but bought in from some other jobbing builder such as Romani.

The fact that your frame is stamped "PIAZZA" helps prove my point. There used to be a company by the name of PIAZZA, based in Osteria Grande Bologne, Italy that built folding bikes, "sports" bikes and also a line of "Super Competition"..as it states in the company's catalogue, that I picked up off their stand at the Paris Show in 1983.

There used to be also an Italian racing cyclist called Donato PIAZZA, bu t whether there is any connection, I haven't been able to work out yet.

So..it would seem that the Colnago / COLNER is more likely to be a PIAZZ A / COLNER/.

As a standard production frame to be sold under someone else's transfer/ brand, it is not altogether surprising that the frame has no frame number. In any case just remember how many Colnagos are found to have no numbe r.
