Subject: [CR]Question on tires for a Clubman

I have 27" Michelin World Tour tires on my '51 aero clubman, and I just got a set of Bluemels and when I went to put them on, I realized there isn't much clearance at all for fend....er..i mean mudguards.

I really like the look of the tire, and since I am on this bike 24/7 I especially like the utilitarian design of it - it looks just like a 3 speed tire. Very durable and comfortable. I could run over a screaming pedestrian and not pop the tire. But in a month or so, I'm going to need the fenders more than the all-purpose tire. I don't know anything about road tires, except that when I was a kid they were really skinny and fragile and went flat all the time. Is there some specific tire I should get that would leave enough clearance for the fenders to fit? And hopefully be able to hold up to city driving?
