My next internal hub project is to use an AW with two cogs on an early '60's Viking. I have yet to try fitting the hub in place but I'm thinking that the Viking's Cyclo-Benelux derailleur should handle the two cogs.

Quoth Sheldon Brown:

"Maybe not. The old coil spring Cyclo Beneluces were sized for different width clusters. Yours may have too much travel, which would put it at risk of shifting into the spokes.

The cage is typically marked with what freewheels it is intended for, such as 5 x 3/32 , 4 x 3/32/3 x 1/8, etc..."

Sheldon, Thanks for the insights. As suggested, the cage on mine is labeled 5 - 3/32 and 4 - 1/8. I didn't fully understand what this meant.

If I'm following the function correctly, the limit adjustment on this derailleur could be set to prevent shifting into the spokes when going to the larger cog (relaxing the tension on the shift cable) however there is no limit adjustment for shifting the toward the smaller cog and therefore one could shift off the cog and wedge the chain between the cog and the frame. Still, not a good situation!

One question though, would it not be possible to shorten the travel of the derailleur by attaching the toggle chain further up the shift cable? Certainly, it would take some experimentation to figure out how far to move it.

Presumably, your signature of Las Vegas means that you're at Interbike. Hope it's useful and entertaining.

Alan
