What would be do if a seller ignored the price guide, and went crazy on the price?
What if it was a track chrome Frejus from Avenia's shop, skip tooth powe r train and had Con Dente pedals? {It would only the second one for sale that I have seen in my life.}
A price guide is silly if you don't know what you are buying, how rare i t is or how many are available. If you are going to actively buy and col lect old bikes as a hobby, you are going to get burned as well as some d eals.
A common bike could turn out to have an obscure component that could be worth more than the bike.
