For some people it probably is what bike collecting is about. It seems to me that collecting can have different aspects. Some people have many bikes; others only a few. Some people specialize in a country or a time period or a type of bike; others collect without any regard for consistency. Some people are proud to have found underappreciated bikes; others prefer the more mainstream makes. Some people ride more; some people ride less. I know that my own collecting has changed over the years. I only have three bikes. I wanted bikes that were widely regarded as being well-made and excellent rides. I also wanted bikes that I would not have to explain to people who were lightly informed about classics. Of course there are more people who know nothing about these bikes, but there are also people who know a little, and it is nice to be able to talk about the bikes without going into a dissertation on lesser known names and European geography.

As for the Masi fetish, I will only say that I like mine. I do ride it. The only inflatables that interest me are tubular tires.

Subject [CR]Masi fetishism

Well, it seem's there is yet another of those Masi Fergusson framestets on sale at ebay, this one a Mexico or something, I confess to little interest in the things. It's small at 52 square, so who knows where it will go.

Anyway, that's not my point, I've been following this Masi fetichism thing for some time on CR and I find it quite bizarre, especially as it sems to be mainly centered around California. As a businessman of some experience, I guess there is a mountain to be made out of inflatable rubber Masis, so I was wondering if any other CR members have any thoughts on this. I mean, the things never get ridden seriously or anything, so why not inflatables ? (When I mention fetichism, don't get me wrong, I'm not talking paraphilia or anything).

Anyway, as a student of human nature, I shall now proceed to purchase a cheap Masi somewhere, and see what reactions I get from CR when I ebay it in bits over a six month period, because that is par for the course from my research. Then I sell the frameset.

Is this what bike collecting is about ?

Best
