I am traveling to Portland later this week and would like some advice on neat, old, crusty and musty KOF bike shops in the general Portland Oregon area. Within 50 miles of city center.

Just use your favorite search engine. You could spend ALL your time in Portland visiting bike shops and frame builders. Steel may rust, rust never sleeps, and the 6 month rainy season has started. But, if ever there were a place (not Seattle or Minneapolis) respecting steel bike construction, it's Portland.

Andy Newlands at Strawberry Bicycles is also the US distributor of fine Italian bicycle-crafting machinery and uncle to a number of welders and frame builders.

Its not a matter of not knowing where to start. Its one of going on and on until the list ends. In at least 3 quadrants of the city.
