I really enjoyed dropping in and chatting with the folks at Sellwood. They do sell new bikes, but lots of consignment of older vintage bikes. A recent post to the BOB list showed they are still selling vintage steel. If you've got a bike, they are an easy pedal south of the downtown area, via a nice bike path. Contact info is below

I discovered Portland is a fantastic riding area. I was lucky enough to borrow an RB-1 for some fastastic riding south/east from Tigert, down to the Canby Ferry, and up the east side of the river back to Portland. When riding there I saw more fellow cyclists per mile than anywhere I can recall !
