Perhaps a good comparison to the PX-10s would be the Lotus Super Sevens of the late 1950s... onward. Basic, simple, light and fast. With a curb weight of only 1300 pounds, you could even order it with a Cosworth Ford BDA racing engine (the company required buyers to take a High Performance driving course before taking delivery on that model). A sports car which real people could actually own and also race. I believe Jim Clark had once described them as about as close as you can get to driving a (vintage) formula one car.
I'd love to someday buy even a recent (Lotus licensed) Caterham Seven. Still stupid-light and scary fast, and in still only in classic open roadster form. And, like an old steel racing bike, they always turn heads. Here is a recently restored 1969 model:
