I'm sure arguing on the list is not constructive, and no one seems to get or agree with what I am saying, but here goes:

>but there could be many others out there who may >have wanted the item even more and would have paid more, but didn't >have >the chance because the auction was ended before they expected. Do you >see what I mean?"

I see what you mean, yes. But you missed my point. I got a price I am very happy with. I don't care if someone wants to pay more. I want an easy sale, not big money.

>why even begin the listing under the pretense of it being a normal high >bid >wins auction of specified length knowing full well it's likely that the >auction will never run its course?

Most of the junk I list doesn't get any bid at all. Occasionally an item will start getting bids, and once in a great while it starts getting high. I'm just trying to clean out the closet, not make money. I don't collect or sell mint collectibles. It's junk. I don't want to deal with some joker bidding it up to an unrealistic price. He'll just get pissed at me.

As and example, I paid $90 for a movie print, and my auction started at $90. It got up to $145 - Someone sent me a question about hte item. and seems like an OK guy, so I offered to end it if he wanted.

What's the crime?

That's a load of crap. He lied to you. Look on the 'cancel an auction' page, and click thru to the warnings and reasons. It says right there you can end it and sell to the highest bidder. It doesn't say ANYTHING about relisting with buy it now. It says "Reasons for ending listings early _include_" and lists a few (presumably not all) of the acceptable reasons. It lists a few that are unacceptable - avoiding fees is the big one. I don't do that.

I am not trying to convince you I am right, or that you guys are wrong. You guys asked. I am just trying to explain that there can be perfectly honest reasons to end an auction, and it is well within the rules.

No offense meant.

Also - someone asked about the Benelux. I have a 3-speed and it works with a 25T just barely. Not sure if that helps, but there it is. Not quite enough teeth for the steepest hills around here, but I don't mind walking.
