Today I "discovered" a still wrapped 1940's Randonneur frameset, fresh from the maker, eg never assembled with all those little things which we add to bikes like bars, chain, cranks, derailleurs and what have you. It's quite an experience to get a new frame from the fourties, and the thing leaves a whole range of issues open: not just who made it etc, but what do I do with it ? Build it to some imaginary period correct spec ?

If you'd like to see some photos of the thing as the wrapper paper comes off for the first time after 60 odd years of storage, usual trick http://membres.lycos.fr/partspeekers/ and click on the bottomost link called, appropriately enough, NOS/NIB 40's frame (or something to that effect).
