I believe that the first formal panto style was done on short seat-posts and long seat-posts, or, at least, for shorter frames and taller frames, so with shorter flutes and longer flutes...so both styles w ould have been contemporaneous, unless I'm missing something. I don't know if the second formal style had two flute lengths, but I know the firs t one did.
