Subject: [CR]Plating of Colnago Toe Strap Buckles-Newbie Questions

I have had some circa 1976 Colnago strap buckles "glass-beaded" to remove rust. The "roller" part of the buckle is ceramic (or glass?). The buckles have the Colnago logo impressed. The process was very effective in removing the rust without damaging the buckle. The leather straps were removed first. Questions: What was the original plating destroyed by the rust-chrome or zinc (or none of the above)? In order to re-plate do I have to disassemble the buckle, spring, roller, etc.? This looks like it might be tricky. Thanks for any and all advice, George
