I have a rather unusual Prior Hub I'm having trouble dating. It is built like a tank: although using some alloy parts from the lightweight models, the flange is heavy gauge chromed steel. The opposing side is a drum brake. Easy, must be a tandem hub. Well, I've yet to see a tandem hub with a single speed frewheel, and that is what it is sporting, and I don't see enough thread for a multi-speed. Has anybody seen one of these before, or know what period it is from ? Even better, know of a machine fitted with one of these. Any help much appreciated.

ps: sorry about the OT variable belt drive thing Dale, I know of many past attempts at both belt and shaft drive, it was the possible attempts at inline transmission with variable diameter "sprocket" I was interested in finding out about. By the way, shaft drive is a very good option if top performance is not crucial, what killed the many production runs (not trials or protos, full production) were in descending order of priority: cost, inertia (meaning they were really great when rolling but hard acceleration was a big issue), energy loss through the bevel drive. And with that I rest my case, My Lord.
