Subject: [CR]Lugs on Paramounts

There is a lot of confusion on which lugs were used when on Paramounts. It is compounded by the fact that for years they used both Nervex and Prugnat on the same bikes.these had Nervex lugs and Prugnat Bottom Brackets! While they had both parts on hand, it may have been possible to ask for one or the other, I'm not sure. Like many builders when parts were bought in large numbers they were often used for years afterward.maybe many years if a box of them were discovered.

Perhaps Ted Ernst can say for sure, I am sure he worked in the Chicago Schwinn Factory. Below is some information that a very knowledgeable collector and ex Schwinn dealer sent to me years ago.I am including it here for the benefit of interested folks.

If this all sounds confusing to you, I am glad to know that I am not alone being confused even though I have collected them and restored them for years:

1938 - 1958 - Paramounts used Eccles & Pollock seamless steel tubing ( from England ) . Paramounts used a style of lugs which we today now call "key-hole-style" lugs .

1958 - 1968 - Paramounts used Reynolds butted seamless steel tubing ( from England ) , and used Campagnolo dropouts . Paramounts used the full Nervex Professional set of lugs , bottom bracket shell , and fork crown . . Please note that it's fun to say that everything matched . But this set of parts arrived in rough shape , needed a lot of work by the frame builders , and took MUCH time to finish ! Also the bottom bracket shell was kind of heavy . But it was the FULL set of Nervex Professional parts !

1969 - 1970 - Paramounts still used Reynolds butted steel tubing , and Campagnolo dropouts . But they switched over to the FULL set of Prugnat lugs , bottom bracket shell , and fork crown .

1971 - 1979 - Paramounts still used Reynolds butted steel tubing , and Campagnolo dropouts . But they switched over to a MIX ! They went back to Nervex Professional lugs . They went back to the Nervex Professional fork crown . They stayed with the Prugnat bottom bracket shell

Thanks to Raoul Delmire for this info.
