Subject: [CR]Suggestions for CR Resources pg - 1 more on fixies

Just a couple suggested additions to the CR Resources page to consider:

Refinishing (USA) Assenmacher Frame & Paint shop

Heavy on fixed gear bikes, but also a growing number of vintage/ classics (like a 1957 Raleigh Lancer of a friend which I photographed recently: <https://mail.msu.edu/cgi-bin/webmail?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fvelospace.org%2F node%2F6236&timestamp=1196289484&md5=1zsxbVe9G6zza6fCs8oF6g%3D%3D> http://velospace.org/node/6236 More detailed pics on my Flickr site if you're interested: <https://mail.msu.edu/cgi-bin/webmail?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2 Fphotos%2Fmsubikeproject%2Fsets%2F72157603130581899%2F&timestamp=1196289484& md5=1zsxbVe9G6zza6fCs8oF6g%3D%3D> http://www.flickr.com/photos/msubikeproject/sets/72157603130581899/ )

I just rejoined the list and have read some of the dialog on the fixie craze. Like Robert at UC Davis, I also run a bike shop on a university campus with a rapidly growing number of fixies. I'd echo what Robert has noted and don't see too much destruction of the frames per se, but with as much traffic (both auto, bikes and peds) congestion that we have around here I think they're a nutty idea.

For what it's worth I've ridden/ raced real fixies on the track in Japan (keirin, pronounced approx. like 'kay-ling) as well as on the road in Japan both in traffic and in the mountains training, where the pros use close-to-race gearing & don't ever stand up, but do affix 2 brakes (Dia-Compe still makes a nice adapter to allow for installing a front brake to a track fork; Japns. pros installed rr. brakes using a couple aluminum plates with a drilled hole). So, they sure can certainly be a great way to ride & train on the road. I'd love to dialog off-list about this topic with anyone.

Thanks, Tim
