"I had one of these once. New in-the-box. Very cool. No indication of "Ideale" anywhere on the part or the box. Go here http://www.velostuf.com/velostufgalleryseatposts.htm"

I'll mention only the Idéale rivet badged searpost, not the funky thing beneath it on the link supplied in the above mentioned post. I had two of these, and sold 'em, which I rather regret now 'cause I'll have to go out of my way to find another one. The ordinary simplex adjustable seat clamp uses the same adjustor design (vertical adjustment), but is a bit weak and cheapo looking. These seat posts are capped top, all alloy, and have thick alloy built on clamp. They came in two lengths, the shorter being if memory serves me right being about 115 mm, the other 225 mm. They are incredibly light and functional. And, this is the part which hurts, they are extremely comfortable. I had never considered a seat post as a element of riding comfort until I removed the Simplex from a racer I have, and replaced it with Campy aero or profiled. The ride, same saddle, was unbearabley hard, without giving me any discernable performance advantage. If you are lucky enough to find one of these, I'd say go for it and use it. The only issue is that some of the older leather saddles have too wide a rail spread to fit easily, so you can't use any old saddle, unless you are prepared to use grease, force and patiece. At your peril.
