I don't know much about the history of moustache bars, but I have a 'Warwick model 90' with wood rims, track ends with adjustors, and a moustache bar. I looked it up a few years ago, and the bike was apparently made in about 1895. My guess is that the moustache bar, or something similar, is one of the earliest handlebars. BTW, the bike is not a fixie, but rather a true stiffie...stiff hubs (front and rear), stiff headset, stiff BB spindle, stiff pedals....the whole thing is stiff. It sits atop an upright piano out in the study.

Hope this is an on topic question:

Just wondering if anyone knows much about or how to find the history of the moustache bar? Were these first used in Japan (i.e. made by Nitto)? Any relationship to the North Road bar? I was not able to find anything immediately in the Bikelist archives.

ps. And for list members down in the the SoCal and San Diego area (for the rest of the list, I apologize for this OT query)...after the recent firestorms, there is the possibility that I might be assisting some folks with the rebuilding of their home. If any of you can recommend some residential general contractors or better yet, have some you've worked with, please let me know their names, etc. Being up here puts me at a slight disadvantage, so any help is greatly appreciated. Contact offlist, of course:) Many thanks!
