Subject: [CR]Vintage Tubular tire "Restoration"

I have some never mounted, but aged and slightly shop-soiled, "vintage tubulars" worthy of preserving. I find it difficult to remove oxidized old material from the sidewalls-the obvious danger is further damaging them with any solvent, etc. Any suggestions as how to properly clean an old tubular sidewall would be appreciated. Another issue, raised here before, is the proper use of Jevelot's "Tire Life". I've found that, despite scrupulous preparation of the tubular this material (a form of latex emulsion), frequently forms a thin film not well adherent to the sidewall fibers, and furthermore then retracts and leaves an uneven surface. Any suggestions as how to prevent this problem, or how to employ another better product, would also be much appreciated by, George
