A member of a NYC cycling forum posted a link to this interesting article w ritten in 1954. Below is a link to a PDF from the Wallingford site:

"In 1954 Britain's "Cycling Weekly" asked their readers what they thought t he bicycle would look like in the year 2000. We came across the 2nd install ment of this article recently and thought it was pretty interesting. Some o f the predictors had a pretty accurate crystal ball; "Mass produced frames will be electrically welded but craftsman-specialists will still build bicy cles. . . .by hand, to the requirements of the conniseur." Some missed the mark pretty wide; Tyres "will be made of plastic and filled with a Latex fo am compound so that punctures will cease to exist."We have reproduced this two page article in PDF format for those of you who are interested...Now if we could only find that March 18th, 1954 issue that has the first part of this article."
