Early/mid 60's Swiss bikes can be interesting.

First, there is a good chance the BB is Swiss thread, although some were French thread. So you have to figure out which direction to turn the fixed cup to remove it. I think an English BB would be unlikely in the mid 60's.

Next, many, but not all Swiss bikes use metric gauge Reynolds tubing, This of course affects a clampon FD and top tube cable clips. Finally, Swiss frames of that era often have French threaded steerers, so take a French HS. But despite the French steerer they may still use a 22.2 stem rather than a French 22.0 stem. That means the steerer wall is really thin, so avoid overtightening the stem. I have a 1968 Allegro Special like that.

Have fun.

I just horse-traded for a Mondia 'Special' frameset, and have a question or two about it- 1) Is it possible to date a Mondia frame from the serial # ? 2)This frame came with a Stronglight 'Competition' headset, and a bb set up with a cottered axle (no logo on any of the parts); the Reynolds decal is (I believe) the early 60's style; there are no bz-ons except for top tube brake cable stops, and a tiny ring to guide the brake cable- is it pretty safe to assume that it is a early-to-mid 60's model? 3) Head badge is missing; I would like to buy or trade for a badge.
