I only have experience with front Airlite hubs, so my comments only apply to those:

These hubs are nicely made, even though the axle is a bit thin by modern standards - i.e. 5/16" x 26tpi. Still, they're reasonably strong axles, and will survive well enough if you really do avoid most of the jumps, wheelies and the bigger potholes.

What might pose a problem, with some frames, is that the fronts are meant for 96mm fork spacing. (At least mine was.) Since my bikes all have 100mm fork spacing, I replaced the axle. But finding a really high quality axle of that length, in that diameter, required an email to the CR list. Still, there are decent BMX axles available in that size if all other sources prove fruitless. Plus, I think using a BMX axle gives you the expressed right to do wheelies, jump pot holes and even ride inside abandoned swimming pools. :-)
