John; I have 2 bikes w/ ATAX brand stems and I know they are French, but beyond that, I don't know anything else about the company. My Peugeot PVS-10 has Phillipe brand bars with "Tour de France" as the model. I'll have to go home and see if my Phillipe bars say ATAX. I have other French bars that say only AVA and I can find no info on them, either...

List: Does anyone know any history on Atax as a brand or company? Some of the usual web sites for classic bikes mention components by this name, but nothing on the brand. For example, the CR website does not list Atax among the French component brands. Sheldon Brown does not list Atax in his glossary. Velobase does not include anything on this brand. Google searches have so far been fruitless. Nothing shows in Wikipedia.

My PX-10 handlebars are engraved with "Atax", "Philippe" and "Guidons". I don't know which of these is a brand name, a model name, or what.
