Subject: [CR]D.C. area classicists an Hains Point on New Year's Day?

Are any of the DC area list members interested in meeting and riding a few laps around Hains Point in East Potomac Park on New Year's Day? I plan to be there on some sort of (classic) fixed gear thing and I think it would be fun to get a group of CR list members together down there. On the way home, I plan to stop for a warm beverage in Clarendon - at the Java Shack, who sponsor a couple of local cycling clubs.

If you're interested, please contact me OFF-LIST, we can set up a meeting time and place, exchange phone numbers, and all that sort of thing.

This tradition was started by the Potomac Pedalers a number of years ago, as the "most boring century ride of the year" - i.e. 31 laps around a flat, 3.2 mile, triangular loop. Their current description lists the mileage as between 0 and 280. I plan to do a lot less than 280, perhaps 10 to 15 LAPS. They also describe the mix of riders in this manner: "Ride around with ALL types of riders--slow & chatty, smooth & swift, silly & squirrelly."

I would expect us to alternate between all those styles. Anyway, it's quite a scene with numerous groups of all sizes and speeds coalescing and drifting apart. Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia (USA)
