I know that at least one Gitane that I own was "mis-stickered" with regards to its tubing at the distributor or manufacturer. Whether it was done on purpose or by mistake is anyone's guess (Reynolds 531P instead of 531C).

I realize that nearly everyone on the CR list would be too honest to do something like this intentionally, but I can imagine a bicycle manufacturer who either got tube stock mixed up, or faced the dilemma of either using the wrong tubing, or not being able to build certain models.

Unless someone here has evidence, it's all just speculation anyways, so why not consider other plausible explanations?
