Subject: [CR]first annual Davis ride report

I was expecting someone else to weigh in with a ride report for yesterdays event and as I did not ride in Davis hopefully someone will cover that portion of the day. Mark St Cyr and Dan Kehew proposed the ride in January (at Fausto Coppis birthday ride) and certainly the Visit to the UC Davis Collection will be well remembered by all who were there (those that didn't make it really missed out) I should really start with the nice lunch in a downtown restaurant in the bike friendly (and bike crazy) university town.Ever been to a place where the staff spent as much time checking out the bikes as waiting tables? There was a place to display our bikes and in between bike talk and lunch, I met many people connected with the collection ,the Davis cycle community and friends of friends. After lunch we made our way back to the school campus to the lower level of a parking structure and there behind steel doors lives the Collection. The collection is not yet open to the public (and is looking for a space that will allow it to do just that) so after exchanging the secret hand shake we were allowed to file in. I think we were very lucky to have a number of people present who helped bring the collection to Davis. They were quite knowledgeable about what we were seeing and there was something for everyone. My hope would be that this visit to Davis might be a yearly event and those of us who were unable to make it this time will have a chance in the the future to see this remarkable display. Thanks to Mark and Dan for facilitating this event,David Weerts (UCD bicycle coordinator) ,Tim Bustos (City of Davis ,Bike coordinator) Mike Teller who took a little time to point out bikes and features that my inexperienced eye would have missed (Mike is an interesting story,an old friend of Greg Davis who met him again at the Hand Built bike show and someone who knew everyone I knew but somehow we had never met) I have taken the liberty of including the link to Eric Meddaughs photo album at the end of the photos in my folder .He covers the ride as well as lunch and the collection. Thanks again to everyone for making this a lot of fun and please forgive me if I left anyone out or misspelled any names

BOB FREITAS another beautiful day in MILL VALLEY,CA USA PS I would like to update my email list if anyone has the addresses for the number of new faces
