Subject: [CR]Modifying a zefal hpx pump

A tidbit of hpx info. I have an extra hpx frame pump in the longest size (4) and I thought I might see if it could be cut down short enough to just fit in my rear pannier. (Just a bit shorter than the hpx 1 size). First I removed the handle and plunger assembly. If you look down the now empty barrel of the pump, you can see a large slotted screw which fixes the formed plastic head to the pump barrel. I manufactured an extra long screwdriver using some metal tubing and disassembled the barrel. Once everything was apart, I can tell you that without some pretty fancy equipment, there is no way to shorten that barrel as both ends are specially shaped and machined. I was rather hoping the hidden end was a simple straight cut. So for anyone out there who has ever considered if the zefal can easily be shortened....it can't.
