I have a late 70's ALAN Competition with the same engravings and almost no decals. The earlier ALAN Olymic, ridden by some Eastern European teams and the Amateur World Road Champion from Poland in the 1974 Montreal World Championships also had minimal decals, but I don't know about the engravings. I think extensive decals began with the Super Record model in the very late 70's or early 80's.

A friend just gave me an early Alan bike. Instead of decals, it has "Alan" engraved on the lower head tube front and a sort of leafy floral thing on the upper front of the head tube. When did Alan start using decals? I tried the archives and there were over 7000 entries for Alan, but I could not find this information. Tom Sanders Lansing, Mi USA
