This photo was sent to me a few years ago by Karl, the fellow sitting on the bike. He had restored this bike in 1989 and then spent that summer touring on it, in Europe.

He said sometimes it just feels RIGHT to wear appropriate clothing when riding a particular bike, although some may think you a bit odd. I tend to agree.

Personally, I like riding with my old wool Jerseys from the 1970s when riding bikes of that era. But, I do prefer the unfamiliar ones from the small locally sponsored European teams and clubs rather than the famous Professional team reproductions. ... Although, I will admit that I was surprised and pleased to have one motorist honk his horn and shout out "EDDY RULES!" when I was riding along in a Molteni team jersey one day.

By the way, the guy in the photo is a commercial illustrator from California who had done some artwork for Grant Petersen of Rivendell in the past. Having beautifully restored a number of Paramounts and Raleigh Professionals, and such previously, Karl decided that he now really prefers restoring and preserving the neglected Club Racer type bikes of the 1950s and 60s - which he regards as the real working class enthusiasts' bikes of their day... rather than the rarified Professional level racing bikes which few average cyclists of the era could afford. An interesting consideration... I tend to just pass over those lower range bikes which we all often come across.
