I wonder if the slavish devotion to the vgt had more to do with the "badness" of the stuff it replaced.

Back to 75 or so. My best friend had a VGT and was sold on it. His was on a Schwinn continental and I had a shimano crane on a huffy:-) His vgt was replacing a Schwinn approved Huret. Same could be said for the plastic Simplex, Campagnolo Valentino and especially the gran turismo

The Shimano Crane GS was my cat's meow.

When did the Suntour AG system come out. It could shift a 14 x 38 with a 16 tooth front difference. I have one set up presently on a Raliegh with a 1/2 step 46X42X30 with Suntour Barcons it is a smart setup.
