Yep. IMO, they went to heck in a hand basket! :)

The ridged protrusion you describe on Athena sounds the same as on the Victory. Really odd that , with the introduction of C-Record/Victory/Triomphe, Campy's three top RD's all had different attachement methods. Triomphe had the traditional notched body, Victory the tabbed washer, C-Record the sprung upper pivot like Simplex.

Or at least the top three then "current" RD's. I'm unclear as to which On-Topic RD's were discontinued with the introduction of C-Record et al, and which may have continued for a few years. Chuck's Campy timeline says the last year for Super Record was 1987, two years after introduction of C-Record. But what about Nuovo Record and Rally? Did Rally continue several more years as part of the mostly unsuccessful attempt to gain a decent share of the MTB market? I seems there is not a very tidy end to the CR era at Campy, with decided Off-Topic components being introduced, but with some On-Topic models continuing in production, and parts or features of On-Topic components, like 116 mm chainrings or the Record/Grand Sport brake calipers being carried over to the new gruppos. And at the same time, Campy was trying to come up with MTB components. Perhaps it is this confusion, one might almost say chaos, at Campy which caused the Listmeister to set 1983 as the cutoff date.

Jerry, Is the Campagnolo Victory's washer absolutely flat? Other than the tab of course... I'm asking because the early Athena RDs (i.e. the ones that sort of look like the C-Record) also used a tabbed washer. But those also have a ridged protrusion that fits into the body of the derailleur. The ridges allowed you to adjust the mounting angle for specific sizes of freewheels. Could the Victory have used a mounting washer for the same reason? If so, perhaps you can use one from an early Athena part, as they show up on eBay from time to time.
