Well, this is a good segue to showing off new pics of my 52cm greenie that is finally just finished ... for now. This is an approx. 1974 Colnago Super, straight out of Italy, that has the same basic decal style that we've seen on early mid 70s models here in the US. The matching numbers "8" are stamped on the dropout, and on the steer tube, near the Columbus dove stamp. It's very similar to an Eddy Merckx Colnago bike in a famous pic of him sitting behind it in Molteni kit, that I scanned from the book, "An Intimate Portrait of The Tour De France". I've shown pics before, but it was prior to having it all built as I want it, and shot with my typical (too many) style. Now that these are done, I can ride the bike again ... she rode so well before, and I'm looking forward to the Vintage Thursdays ride tomorrow night!

I got "Greenie" by showing Matteo the Ebay auction in Italy, available only to Italy. Matteo bid on and won the bike. He picked it up, packed it up and shipped it to me in Michigan with quite a few other bikes that he then sold on Ebay with the convenience for the buyer of paying for shipping from the USA. Greenie too was to be sold, and I didn't have money for anything big at the time. But once I saw it, I could not help but be in love. Matteo recognized my lustful ache, and the dear soul wanted me to have the bike so much, that he actually induced me only to pay him in monthly increments until paid off ... which I did!!!

The 1974 cranks, b.b., h.s., bars, stem seatpost, 1974 wheels, cogs, PAT.73 rear der body, and front der. cage are original to the bike. It was all Campy equipped, but had Universal Super 68 brakes. I was compelled to change them out to Campy. I also replaced the front derailleur clamp body, brake and shift levers, and rear derailleur cage plates only, to better mimic the Eddy bike. Of course, once I finished the steering setup, I acquired brake levers only (no mounting bodies, just the blades) with more appropriate drillings. I'll put them on when the overmilled levers shown bend, or when the 1980s hoods are shot ... this bike is going to get ridden! Sure, I'll swap out the big ring for standard issue, and I use SPD clipless pedals when I really ride, so the SL pedals and NOS Cinelli old logo toe clips will be spared, but everything else goes riding. When did these Cinelli aluminum clips come out ... anyone know?

Anyway, there are 44 images on 3 pages ... and here's the link to pics:

Dale:

This decal configuration was used in Europe by Colnago in '73. Many CR members seems to forget, even though it's been mentioned a few times on the list, that different countries got decal/cosmetic features on Colnagos that differed from bikes sent to the U.S. I purchased a N.O.S. '73 Colnago frame from a shop in Belgium about two years ago and it has this same decal configuration see in on the Ebay bike in question. One other CR member in Germany has a Colnago from '73 with this identical arrangement also.

I see it's local pick up or....?

What's up with the "clover" head tube/seat tube decal on the down tube? That whole down tube decal selection looks wrong to me. That "blaze" with sripes also seems late-ish to me. Is this a repaint?
