Dear Ken. I think a cool place to go in the Bay Area is Rivendell Bicycle works in Walnut Creek. They started out as a mail order business in a rented warehouse, so it's a little hard to find, and definitely on the funky side. But there bicycles are beautiful, and they are cool people. Walnut creek is in the east bay, which is a good distance from where your going to be, so give yourself some driving time. Have a good trip.
