hi all the direction might soley have to do with tradition going back to the beginning of Rome with chariot races. (counterclockwise) why the Romans and likely the Greeks chose to go in that direction i don't think is known but i think that is where the real answer might be. http://www.novaroma.org/ludi/html/history.html
